Men's and Women's Tennis Will Host Niagara on Saturday

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University tennis teams will play their final 2016-2017 home match on Saturday, April 22, at 10:00am against MAAC foe Niagara University. This match will also be in conjunction with an honoring of the six seniors in a pre-match ceremony. The seniors honored will be Malieva Hedberg, Lucia Radovic, Claudia Hellman, Elena Melian Puigventos, Cuong Lam, and Andres-Sebastian Rojas.

 

Last Time Out - The men's and women's teams both fell to Rider University by scores of 5-2 and 6-1, respectively. The men's team owns a 1-19 overall record with a 0-6 MAAC record. The women's team sports a 2-17 overall record with a 0-6 conference record.

 

History - Last year, on April 10, 2016, the men's and women's teams travelled to Niagara University, NY. The men's team defeated the Purple Eagles in a tight 4-3 contest. The Peacocks lost the doubles tandem point but pulled out four singles wins. Alumni Daniil Ivanov and Jorge Rodriguez won the lone doubles match at No. 1. Ivanov (No. 1), Andres-Sebastian Rojas (No. 4), Gabriel Russotto (No. 5), and Douglas Nover (No. 6) all won their respective singles matches. The women's team was swept by the Purple Eagles, 7-0. Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg were the lone win at No.1 doubles.

 

Scouting  - Niagara University men's tennis team sport a 5-16 overall record with a 1-5 conference record. Their lone conference win is against Rider University. The men's team was picked fifth in the MAAC preseason tennis poll. The women's team have an overall record of 4-16 with a 2-3 conference record. Their conference wins are against Monmouth University and Rider University. They were picked to finish fourth in the MAAC preseason tennis poll.

 

Up Next - The men's team travel one last time for the season to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday for a 2:00pm match against the Saint Joseph's University Hawks. The women's team has ended their season and will look to come back stronger for the 2017-2018 season!
