Kristoffersen-Moore Tandem Power Three-Run Seventh To Lift Saint Peter's Baseball To 6-5 Win Against Saint Louis In Nightcap

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – Jon Kristoffersen (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) smacked a two-run triple and Rob Moore (Ridge, N.J./Longwood) hit a sacrifice fly in a three-run seventh inning to help Saint Peter's down Saint Louis 6-5 in the second game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader on Friday at the Wake Forest Tournament. The Billikens defeated the Peacocks in the opener 8-5.

Saint Peter's scored six unanswered runs, including three runs in the seventh to give the Peacocks the lead it would not relinquish to earn their first win of the season. Kristoffersen tripled home two runs to right center to start the rally and then Moore plated Kristoffersen with what proved to be the decisive run on a sacrifice fly to right field. Saint Louis added two runs in the eighth, but Eric Mozeika (Seacaucus, N.J./High Tech) came in to record the final four outs.

Kristofferson went 2-for-5 in the win with four RBIs. The sophomore added a 3-for-5 game with a run scored in the opener. Moore finished the day with one hit and three RBIs.

Zach Hopf (Woodbridge, N.J./Woodbridge) allowed three runs in the first two innings and then didn't allow a run in the final five innings he pitched, allowing three runs on six hits with four strikeouts in seven innings for his first win of the year. Jim Smith (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) added three hits and two RBIs for the Peacocks (1-4) while Ariel Ramirez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Babeque) posted three hits, two runs scored and an RBI and Nick Henriquez (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) recorded three hits and two runs scored on the afternoon.

Braxton Martinez paced Saint Louis (3-5) in the first game with a 4-for-4 performance, two runs scored and an RBI. Danny Murphy and Colton Fabasilio each added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI while Michael Bozarth recorded two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs in the two games.

After the Billikens posted three runs in the first two innings of the nightcap, Saint Peter's scored three times in the fifth and seventh to come away with a 6-5 win.

Henriquez started the rally in the fifth with a single to right center before Zach Rawson (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run) walked. With one out Nick Cardamone (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) walked to load the bases before Ramirez plated Henriquez on a single to right field and Kristoffersen brought home Rawson and Cardamone on a two-run single to tie the game at 3.

In the seventh, Vinny Maietta (Franklin Square, N.Y./St. Marys) single to left center and Ramirez walked before Kristoffersen cleared the bases with a triple to right center and give Saint Peter's the lead it would not relinquish. Moore plated Kristoffersen on a sacrifice fly to right for a 6-3 advantage.

Josh Bunselmeyer smacked a pinch hit two-out, two-run double in the eighth to trim the margin to 6-5, but Mozieka came in to record the final out of the inning and retired three of the four batters faced in the ninth after allowing a two-out walk.

Saint Louis got the scoring started with a run in the first thanks to a Mike Vigliarolo RBI groundout for a 1-0 edge. Drew Curtus and Bozarth notched RBIs in the second to increase the lead to 3-0, but the Peacocks scored six runs in two innings to take the lead and hold on for its first win of the year.

The Billikens scored the first seven runs in the opener and held off a late Saint Peter's charge to take the first game of the Wake Forest Tournament, 8-5.

Saint Louis got on the scoreboard in the second win a Frabasilio RBI groundout and then Danny Brennan added a run in the fourth on a run-scoring single to right field for a 2-0 lead.

After Danny Mannion hit an RBI single up the middle in the sixth, the Billikens scored three times in the seventh to take a 6-0 lead. Alex Sole started the rally with an RBI single up the middle before Martinez plated a run on a single to left and a third run came in on a fielder's choice.

Bozarth singled up the middle in the eighth to give Saint Louis a 7-0 margin.

In the bottom of the inning, Saint Peter's got on the scoreboard with two runs. Michael Wulff (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Ramirez singled and Moore walked before Smith coaxed a bases loaded walk to plate Wulff. Chris Hugg (Ironia, N.J./Randolph) brought around Ramirez on a single to right field to trim the margin to 7-2.

Murphy homered to restore a six-run lead, but the Peacocks scored three times in the ninth to set the final score at 8-5.

Henriquez singled through the left side to open the ninth and Wulff was hit by the pitch with one out in the inning. After Kristoffersen singled, Moore doubled home two runs and Smith singled to left to plate Kristoffersen with the third run. After a Hugg walk, a lineout ended the game. 

Mark Wilson (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) took the loss for Saint Peter's. Wulff posted a 2-for-3 performance with two runs scored in the opener.

The Peacocks return to action on Saturday against Stony Brook. Game time is 12 p.m.
