STATEN ISLAND, NY - The Saint Peter's University softball team dropped a doubleheader to Wagner on Tuesday, falling 1-0 in the first game and 11-1 in the second. The Peacock's overall record moves to 2-20 and their MAAC record is 1-6.
Game 1Saint Peter's started Alyssa Ruiz who pitched six innings giving up one hit. It was a short game for the Peacocks as they were able to get only four hits. The Saints shutout Saint Peter's, winning the game 1-0.
The Peacocks held an even score until Wagner scored in the bottom of the third winning, 1-0.
"We had a real nice pitching performance from Alyssa Ruiz going six strong innings and giving up one run," said head coach Chris Stelma.
Game 2The Peacocks started Ruiz who pitched one inning, allowed three hits and allowed two runs. Shamar Sanchez led the Peacocks with a run.
I't wasn't until the top of third that Sanchez scored an unearned run. The Peacocks were unable to record anymore runs as Wagner won the game 11-1.
"It's a pleasure to coach a kid like Alyssa," said Stelma. "It's nice to see a player like Alyssa step up and throw a game like this."
Next upThe Peacocks will travel to Riverdale to face Manhattan in a doubleheader matchup on April 12. The first game will start promptly at 12:30pm.
