HAMDEN, CT – The Saint Peter's men's basketball team shut down Quinnipiac University offense in a 52-43 win on Friday night in the TD Bank Sports Center, giving the Peacocks the season sweep over their Connecticut Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe.

Elijah Gonzales (Portland, OR/Clackamas) scored a Saint Peter's (11-17, 5-12 MAAC) team-high 13 points. Samuel Idowu (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette Educational Complex) tallied his fourth double-double of the season scoring 11 points and notching 10 rebounds. Quinn Taylor (Amarillo, TX/Tascosa) matched Idowu with 11 points and a team-high three assists.

Quinnipiac (10-19, 7-10 MAAC) had Cameron Young score 16 points and grab 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats.

The 43 total points for Quinnipiac was an opponent season-low for the Peacocks, and a single-game season-low for the Bobcats. This was the lowest total points allowed by the Peacocks since exactly two years to the day, when Saint Peter's held Manhattan to 40 points on February 23, 2016.

Taylor opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers, giving the Peacocks an early 8-0 lead. The Peacocks lead jumped up to 11-2 10 minutes into the game, holding the Bobcats to 0-13 shooting from the field and 0-7 from behind the arc. An 11-7 run extended the Saint Peter's lead to 22-9 following a 3-pointer by Cameron Jones (Fairless Hills, PA/Pennsbury). Gonzales closed the half with back-to-back trifectas, but Quinnipiac cut the Peacock lead to single digits at 28-19 at the break. The Peacocks held Quinnipiac to 23.1 percent shooting from the field (6-26) and 20 percent shooting from deep (3-15). The 19 Quinnipiac points in the first half was a season-low for the Bobcats and was the third lowest point total that the Peacocks held their opponent to in the first half of a game this season (16 at Siena, 18 against Niagara).

In the second half, the Peacocks allowed Quinnipiac to cut the lead to six points early on, leading 30-24, but Saint Peter's used an 11-3 run to extend the score to 41-27 with less than eight minutes to play. The Peacocks maintained the double figure lead for the next six minutes, holding onto a 50-37 edge with under one minute remaining. In the final minute, Quinnipiac scored garbage time points leading to the final score.

Saint Peter's held Quinnipiac under 50 percent shooting in all facets of the game. The Peacocks forced the Bobcats to .278 shooting from the field (15-54), .192 shooting from three (5-26), and the Bobcats shot .471 from the charity stripe (8-17).

The Peacocks will conclude the regular season at home on Sunday, February 25 when the team welcomes Siena to the Yanitelli Center for senior day. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
