Men's Golf Places Second in the Checkmate Challenge

GALLOWAY,  NJ - The Saint Peter's men's golf team placed second overall in the final standings at the Checkmate Challenge this past weekend.

"I thought we played well for the amount of practice time we have had," said head coach Nick Dilio. "It was a good start to the spring season and hopefully we can take this momentum into the next tournament this weekend."

In round one, the Peacocks defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 3.5-1.5 with three wins from Stanley Garrant, David Powers and Jose Cardona. Mike Winter halved his match and Jeffrey Peter's lost, 1 down..

In the semi-finals, the Peacocks were victorious after defeating Fairleigh Dickinson 4.5-0.5. Winter, Garrant, Powers and Cardona combined for individual wins in the victory.

The Peacocks faced Hartford in the championship round and were defeated 4.5-0.5. Garrant led the team with a tied match in the competition. Below are the final standings for the Checkmate Challenge.
