Men's Golf Heads to Sacred Heart to Compete in the Men's Spring Invitational

Opening Word

The Saint Peter's men's golf team will travel to the the Great River Golf Club in Milford, CT to compete in the Sacred Heart University Men's Spring Invitational from April 15-16.

Tee-off on Sunday will be at 1:30 p.m. and 8:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The field features conference schools Monmouth, Fairfield, and Rider. The non-conference schools are Hartford, LIU Brooklyn and host, Sacred Heart.

Last Time Out

Sophomore men's golfer David Powers closed out the Wildcat Invitational on April 10 by winning the tournament's individual title. The Saint Peter's men's golf team concluded the invitational tied for fourth place.

Powers shot a one under par on the final day of the invitational for a final score of 68+70=138 (-4) over the two day tournament, edging Wagner's A.J. Skinner by two strokes. Powers' final round produced an eagle on hole 17 and a birdie on hole five.

On the team scoreboard, the Peacocks tied for fourth place with a total of 290+295=585 (+17). Drexel claimed the team title, winning the tournament with a 573 (+5). Against conference teams in the field, the Peacocks tied with Iona in the fourth spot and edged Monmouth, Rider, and Siena.  

Golfer of the Week

The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced that sophomore David Powers has been named the MAAC Men's Golfer of the Week on April 11 after winning the individual title in the Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, PA.

Powers led the field in the two-day tournament after shooting a 68+70=138 (-4), edging Wagner's A.J. Skinner by two strokes. After the first round, he led the field after posting a three under par coming by way of four birdies on the front nine, and one birdie with seven strokes on par on the back nine to close out day one. In the final round of the invitational, Powers shot one under par and he produced an eagle on hole 17 and a birdie on hole five.

Meet the Staff

Head Coach Nick Dilio is a three-time NCAA qualifier, claiming the 2016 MAAC individual title. In the process of his collegiate career, he participated in the NCAA Regional action three consecutive years. As a junior he was a MAAC Runner-up and registered four top-15-and three-top-10 showings at the MAAC Championships. Dilio also made an appearance in the Porter Cup which is one of the top amature tournaments in the world. In previous years the Porter Cup hosted golf legends Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, David Duval, Ben Crenshaw, and Hal Sutton.
