Men’s Tennis Announces its 2017 Spring Schedule; Team Selected 7th in MAAC Preseason Poll

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's men's tennis head coach Mike Scolamieri has announced the team's 2017 spring schedule.

"The Fall season went as expected," noted head coach Mike Scolamieri. "It was about learning what we have to work on for the more difficult winter-spring seasons. Our hope is to stay injury free and to play our best from mid March to mid April when we play our toughest conference opponents."


The men open up the season at home in the RLC Bubble for their first three matches and in six out of their first eight beginning on Saturday, Jan. 28 against St. Bonaventure.


The team takes a week break before returning to the court on Sunday Feb. 5 hosting Fordham and then on Feb. 11 they play host to Loyola, MD. On Feb. 17, the squad hits the road for the first time, traveling to New Shrewsbury Racquet Club to face MAAC rival Monmouth. The team returns home on Sunday, Feb. 19 to take on La Salle. The final match in February will take place at Milford Indoor against Sacred Heart on the 26th.


The unit invites St. Francis Brooklyn to Jersey City on March 4 and then Lafayette on March 5. The team hits the road for two matches, first on Saturday, March 11 they head to Philadelphia to face Drexel and then on Sunday, March 19 they head to MAAC foe Siena. The team returns home for one contest on March 25 to go against Fairfield


In April, the men's team heads to rival Rider on Saturday, April 1, then heads to in-state foe, Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday April 6. A couple of days later, they return to the Yanitelli Center, hosting Delaware on April 8. The team goes on the road for one meeting with Marist on April 19 closes MAAC play at home versus Niagara on Saturday, April 22. The final match for the men is on Sunday, April 23 on the road at St. Joseph's.

The men's team was selected seventh in the MAAC preseason coaches' poll receiving 16 votes. The Marist College Red Foxes have been named the preseason favorite to win the 2017 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship.
