Lafayette Edges Men's and Women's Tennis in a Close Match

JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University tennis teams fell to the Leopards of Lafayette College on Sunday. The men's team dropped another tough match, 4-3 for the second day in a row and the women's team lost 5-2.


Men's Results - The Peacocks lost the doubles point but without ending on a good note. No. 2 Doubles of Gabriel Russotto and Cuong Lam lost 6-0 to Drew Rooks and Mason Keel. Ivan Knezevic and Jonathan Paredes followed with a tight 6-4 lost at No. 3 against Paul Caruso and Chris Kim. Andres-Sebastian Rojas and Douglas Nover won a tough 7-6(5) doubles match against Blake Oslan and Andrew Reed at the top doubles position. Ivan Knezevic, first time playing at the top singles position, lost 6-2, 6-1 against Blake Oslan. At No. 2, Andres-Sebastian Rojas won against Andrew Reed 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(1). Douglas Nover won at No. 3 to put another point on the board for the Peacocks. He defeated Drew Rooks 6-2, 6-2. Gabriel Russotto dropped a tough two-setter against Mason Keel, 6-2, 7-6(3), at No. 4. Cuong Lam fell to Paul Caruso at No. 5, 6-2, 6-1. Jonathan Paredes played an eight game pro set with Chris Kim and won by a score of 9-7 at No. 6.


Women's Results - The women won the doubles point for the second match on the weekend. Claudia Hellman and Elena Melian Puigventos won at No. 2 against Grace Conrad and Meredith Block, 6-4. Lucia Radovic and Malieva Hedberg won 7-6(6) at No. 1 against Tori Almeida and Lauren Tracy to clinch the point. Stephanie Falcon and Christian Resurreccion fell 6-1 to Rocine Moschella and Gabby Montes at No. 3. Lucia Radovic dropped a close 6-3, 7-5 match at No. 1 singles against Grace Conrad. Elena Melian Puigventos fell to Rocine Moschella at No. 2, 6-2, 6-3. At No. 3, Malieva Hedberg fell to Tori Aleida 6-3, 6-0. Claudia Hellman won her second match in a row at No. 4. Today, she defeated Lauren Tracy 6-2, 6-3. Stephanie Falcon dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision to Meredith Block at No. 5. Christian Resurreccion played an eight game pro set too. She played Katie Hill and dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 6 singles.


Up Next - The men's team hit the road again for a match at Drexel next Saturday, March 11. First serve is set for 12pm. The women's team is off for another week and return to the court, along with the men's team, at Siena College on March 19 at 1pm.
