SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team suffered a close loss to Lafayette, 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon. The Peacock's overall record moves to 1-9.
Saint Peter's started Crystal Carlucci who pitched a complete game, going all six innings.
Lafayette took the lead in the bottom of the first, as they sealed three runs leading the Peacocks 3-0.
In the top of the third, Samantha Storms score the first run of the game for the Peacocks on a throwing error as Shamar Sanchez earned an RBI from her sacrifice bunt and run to put the Peacocks one run shy of the Leopards.
Carlucci kept the high energy as she tallied three outs to move the Peacocks into fourth inning.
Top of the fourth, Storms hit a two-run home-run, putting the Peacocks in the lead 4-3.
It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth when Lafayette got a go-ahead double, sending two runs across the plate and jumping to the lead 5-4 lesd. Unfortunately the Peacocks were unable come back, finishing the game 5-4.
"It was a tough day with the weather, said head coach Chris Stelma. "The girls played hard and had some big hits but we couldn't hold on," said Stelma.
The Peacocks will face Drexel in a doubleheader on Thursday, March 30. The First game will start promptly at 2pm.
