PHILADELPHIA, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team dropped both contests to Drexel on Thursday afternoon. The Peacock's overall record falls to 1-11.
"Drexel is a very strong team that plays in a very good conference," said head coach Chris Stelma. "Our girls played hard with them inning for inning," said Stelma.
In game one the Peacocks started Sydney Ramsey who pitched all six innings.
The Dragons shut out Saint Peter's 9-0 in the win.
In game two Tiffany Lambert pitched six innings for the Peacocks.
In the top of first Saint Peter's were able to score four runs led by Kathleen Donovan who scored the first run. The Dragons came back from the 4-0 deficit and scored three runs in the bottom of the first falling behind the Peacocks 4-3.
Drexel held Saint Peter's to four as they came back to tie in the bottom of the second at 4-4. The Dragons then jumped into the lead as they scored four runs in the fourth taking the lead over the Peacocks 8-4.
In the top of the fifth the Peacocks were able to put up two hits before Brianna Hutchinson scored a run. Saint Peter's added one more run in the sixth before Drexel added three at the bottom of the sixth, claiming the second game of the double-header, 11-6.
"We got a solid pitching performance from our entire staff and continued to pound the ball offensively," Stelma said. "We are very excited to start conference play and surprise a lot of teams in the MAAC." said Stelma.
The Peacocks will start conference play on April 1 in a home opener against Siena. The first game will start promptly at 1pm and the second at 3pm.
