JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's University softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Siena Saints on Monday, falling 8-0 in the first game and 6-3 in the second. The Peacock's overall record moves to 2-14 and their MAAC record is an even 1-3.
Saint Peter's started Crystal Carlucci who pitched 4.2 innings. It was a short game for the Peacocks as they were able to get only three hits in five innings. The Saints shutout Saint Peter's, winning the game 8-0.
"We struggled to get our bats going today, Game one wasn't what we were hoping for," said head coach Chris Stelma.
In the bottom of the first, the Peacocks led Siena 1-0 as Brianna Hutchinson singled advancing Alina Guevara to second paving the way for Donovan to score. The Peacocks then earned their third hit of the game at the bottom of the second while Shamar Sanchez stole second and third base but failed to cross home.
Saint Peter's continued to hold the lead at 1-0 until Siena picked up three runs in the top of the fifth, giving them a 3-1 lead. The Saints added one more run in top of the sixth, extending their lead to 4-1.
After a single from Guevara at the bottom of the sixth, Hutchinson hit a homerun which put the Peacocks behind the Saints 4-3. Heading into the top of the seventh, Siena managed to score two more runs winning the game 6-3.
"We bounced back and came alive in game two Brianna Hutchinson added a two run homer to pull within 1 run late in the game." said Stelma.
The Peacocks will travel on I-90w to meet Niagara in a doubleheader matchup on April 8. Game one is scheduled to started at 12pm.
