WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ - The Saint Peter's softball team dropped a doubleheader to Monmouth on Friday afternoon at MU Softball Field. The Peacocks dropped the first game, 3-2 and the second game, 2-0.
"We have had a tough schedule in conference which will make us much stronger down the final stretch," said head coach Chris Stelma. "Our girls continue to grind out every game and compete every inning. It's fun to watch the improvements and we hope to see it translate into the win/loss column."
The Peacocks started Mary Mastriani who pitched all seven innings. Shamar Sanchez led the team scored run, a stolen base and completed RBI.
The Hawks led the Peacocks 3-0 zero until the top of the sixth inning. Leading off was Harley Connors with a single up the middle which placed her on first base then on second after a wild pitch. Sanchez then hit a single to right field, advancing Connors to home for the score. After Sanchez stole second, Nicole Feoli singled to right field and Sanchez scored the second run of the game. The Peacocks were unable to score in the top of the seventh and the Hawks won the game 3-2.
The Peacocks started Sydney Ramsey as pitcher who pitched a full game. The Hawks scored in the bottom of the second and in the bottom of the third. The Peacocks were unable to score and the Hawks won the game 2-0
The Peacocks will return face the Rider Broncs on Saturday, April 14. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12 p.m.
