The Saint Peter's softball team will host Canisius on Saturday, April 21. The conference doubleheader will start at 12 p.m.

Word on the Golden Griffins
Canisius enters Saturday's matchup with an overall record of 5-26 and a 1-3 conference record. The Golden Griffins split a doubleheader with University at Buffalo on April 18, dropping the first game 8-0 and winning the second game 15-5. Destiny Holani leads the team with a .333 batting average, Kara Paradowski leads 14 runs while Morgan Altman leads with 4 home runs and 17 RBI's.

Last Time Out
The Peacocks claimed its first doubleheader sweep of the season against UMES in non-conference play on April 18 at Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks won the first game 2-0 and the second game, 8-0. Theamaris Ramirez led the team with two home runs total and 4 RBIs.

MAAC Female Student-Athlete of the Week
Theamaris Ramirez was named as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Female Student-Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office on April 10.

Welcome Back
The Saint Peter's softball team returns 10 players, including two seniors, (Nicole Feoli, Shamar Sanchez) four juniors, (Schieler Collins, Harley Connors, Tiffani Lambert, Sydney Ramsey), and four sophomores, (Theamaris Ramirez, Brianna Hutchinson, Georgia Verrastro).

New Additions
The Peacocks welcome six players to the team including three freshman, (Alyssa Adams / West Islip, NY), (Natasha Solano / Elizabeth, NJ) and (Taylor Lewis / Mason, OH), (Michelle Kugelman / Middletown, NJ) and three Juniors, ( Taylor White / Arlington, VA), Mary Mastriani / Sparta, NJ) and (Barbara Verrastro / Scott Township, PA).

Meet the Heach Coach
Chris Stelma will begin his second season at the helm of the Saint Peter's Softball team. In Stelma's first season, the team recorded 115 runs with six wins, including four conference wins in 2017. The Peacocks earned a series sweep for the first time in three years and improved their batting average from .199 in 2016 to .247 in 2017. Stelma had nine student-athletes named to the MAAC All-Academic team and one player named to the All-MAAC Rookie team.

He most recently served as an assistant coach at Division III, William Paterson University in New Jersey during the 2016 season. Prior to joining William Paterson, he was the owner of Fielder's Choice Baseball/Kaboom Softball in Andover, where he coordinated training, league play, tournaments and facilities, and served as the head coach of the U18 Showcase baseball and softball teams. Stelma was the baseball head coach at his alma mater, County College of Morris, during the fall of 2007.

Stelma earned a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Rhode Island in 2006. While at URI, Stelma was a member of the baseball team where he played two seasons at shortstop for the Rams, making 31 starts and appearing in over 40 games. Prior to transferring to URI, Stelma began his collegiate career at County College of Morris where he played for current Saint Peter's assistant coach Ed Moskal in 2003. He was named All-Region and All-Garden State Conference at County College of Morris and ranked in the top 15 among JUCO hitters in 2003.
