JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's softball team dropped a MAAC series to Manhattan on Tuesday at Jaroschak Field. The Peacocks fell in the first game 8-2 and the second game 7-4.
"We fought hard today," said head coach Chris Stelma. "Our pitchers did a nice job getting out of some innings and we strung some hits together today."
The Peacocks scored in the bottom of the second after Georgia Verrastro hit a single to left field and advanced to second on an error which allowed Hutchinson to score. The Peacocks led the Jaspers 1-0.
As the game went on the Jaspers passed the Peacocks leading 8-1 after the top of the fifth. The Peacocks scored in the bottom half of the fifth with a homer to left field from Ramirez.
Barbara Verrastro pitched all seven innings and faced 38 batters, tallying three strikeouts. Alyssa Adams led the team with two runs, Georgia Verrastro hit her first career home run and Michelle Kugelman scored a run.
With the Jaspers leading 7-1, Georgia Verrastro homered to center, making the game 7-2. In the bottom of the sixth the Peacocks kept fighting and added another run after pinch runner, Kugelman, scored after a Jaspers error. The Peacocks scored their last run in the bottom of the seventh, setting the 7-4 final.
The Peacocks will continue home play as they close out non-conference play against Coppin St. on Thursday, May 3. The doubleheader will start at 2 p.m.
