JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete in the 15th Annual Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, NY on Saturday, hosted by The University at Albany. The meet is scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
MAAC Preseason Polls
The Saint Peter's men's indoor track and field team was selected fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) coaches' preseason poll, and the women's indoor track and field team was voted ninth in the MAAC coaches' preseason poll. The men's team, led by two-time MAAC defending high jump champion, Jermaine Lascelle, received 25 votes in the poll. The women's team earned 14 votes in their respective poll.
Meet the Coaching Staff
Phyllis Anderson begins her second season as head cross country and track and field coach at Saint Peter's in 2017-18. Anderson previously served as the team's interim head coach during the 2015-16 academic year. Anderson guided two individual MAAC champions and several medalist during the 2016-17 indoor and outdoor track and field championships. She was also inducted into the Armory Coaches Hall of Fame in December of 2016. Anderson guided multiple MAAC individual champions in 2015-16 at the league's indoor and outdoor track and field championships. She returned to the college ranks after previous stints at St. Francis College (N.Y.) and City College of New York. One of the most successful scholastic coaches in New York City, Anderson built the A. Philip Randolph High School track and field program into a powerhouse, winning nearly 20 consecutive Manhattan borough championships along with multiple indoor and outdoor New York City titles. Her team also won the 2000 New Balance/Marty Glickman Award presented to the team with outstanding achievement in academics, team spirit and community service. Anderson has also coached multiple Olympians, including gold medalist Natasha Hastings (Team USA, 2008) and Barbara Selkridge (Antigua, 1988). She has also been a fixture as a coach at the Empire State Games. She holds a bachelor's degree from Queens College (N.Y.), where she was a student-athlete on the school's volleyball team, and a master's degree from City College of New York. Anderson has also completed additional coursework in administration at CCNY and at Bronx Community College.
Rudy Thompson begins his second year as assistant cross country and track and field coach in 2017-18 at Saint Peter's. Thompson joined the Peacocks after establishing himself as a decorated scholastic coach within several New York City programs for more than a decade. Thompson brings a diverse coaching background to the Peacocks program, having coached cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field at several schools in New York. Most recently, he served as the head indoor and outdoor track and field coach at George Washington High School since 2012. In addition, he has coached within numerous specialties, including sprints and distance events, along with field events including the pole vault, discus and shot put. He has also been an active member within the local community and has been recognized by multiple civic and charitable organizations for his outreach efforts. Thompson earned a bachelor's degree from North Carolina A&T and a master's degree from Brooklyn College. He also completed an advanced certificate at Brooklyn College and coursework towards a second master's degree at Touro College.
