JERSEY CITY, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell to Yale, 70-49 on Tuesday night in the Yanitelli Center. Talah Hughes led the Peacocks with 16 points.
The Peacocks trailed the Bulldogs, 7-9, after Sammy Lochner and Martin scored two points each along with a three-pointer from Velles. The Bulldogs added five points to increase their lead to 12-7. A jumper by Sam Meier from a Lochner pass added two points to the board before Yale posted three points to lead extend the lead to six at 15-9. Saint Peter's used two jumpers from Hughes and a layup by Martin to close the quarter on a 6-2 run, trailing the Bulldogs, 17-15.
In the second quarter, the Peacocks trailed by one after an Anna Maguire, three, making the score, 19-18. The Bulldogs outscored the Peacocks, 16-9 to bring the score to 35-27 at intermission. Hughes scored seven of the Peacock's nine points to end the quarter.
Hughes continued to have the hot hand opening the half with six straight points, cutting the Peacocks deficit to 37-32. Yale eventually took a 10-point lead at, 42-32. The Peacocks fought back as they scored eight unanswered points, to close in on the Bulldogs at 42-40. The run came with three points from Bethea, a jumper from Pero, and a three pointer from Haley Dalonzo. The Bulldogs responded to the Peacock run, closing out the quarter on a 15-2 run that extended their lead to 57-42 heading into the final quarter.
In the final quarter, the Peacocks could not complete the comeback, dropping the game 70-49.
The Peacocks will travel to Teaneck to play Fairleigh Dickinson on December 21. The game is schedule to start at 7pm.
