HACKENSACK, NJ - The Saint Peter's women's basketball team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 69-59 on Thursday in the Rothman Center. Freshman guard, Haley Dalonzo, posted a career high of 21 points.
The Peacocks trailed the Knights 16-3 early in the first quarter. The Peacocks were able to hold the Knights to one point as they added 7 points with two points from Sajanna Bethea and Talah Hughes and a three-pointer from Dalonzo. The Peacocks ended the first quarter trailing the knights 17-10.
In the second quarter, Dalonzo added three points to to the board and the Knights add four points to lead 21- 13. Saint Peter's continued to play hard as they fought to close the deficit, trailing the Knights only by three points at, 23-20. The knights posted two points before power forward, Pero, made a layup followed by a jump shot on the next play to put the Peacocks behind the Knights by one point, st 25-24. The Peacocks were unable to score and end the first half behind at 29-24.
After the break, the Knights posted two points while Hughes added one point and Velles knocked in two back to back threes to even the game at 31-31. The Knights closed out the quarter on an 11-1 run, leading 42-32 at the end of the third quarter.
In the final period, the Knights continued to lead by 10, under three minutes into the quarter. The Peacocks comeback attempt began as Dalonzo scored six points and Pero posted two points to trail the Knights 56-49, but the Peacocks was unable to catch the Knights as they dropped the game 69-59.
The Peacocks will start conference play at Manhattan on December 28. The game is scheduled to start at 7pm.
