Wednesday's home opener for the Peacocks will be the first of three-straight home games. The game is set for a 3pm start at Caven Point Soccer Field in Jersey City against Delaware State. The Peacocks last played a home contest at Caven Point on October 4, 2015, in a conference loss to Marist College.
Wednesday afternoon's contest between Saint Peter's and Delaware State will be the 14th meeting in the all-time series and the fifth consecutive match between the two programs since 2013. The Peacocks own a 9-3-1 all-time series advantage over the Hornets, but the teams have gone an even 2-2-1 in the last five matchups.
Last Time We Met
Last season, the Peacocks fell 2-0 to the Hornets on September 14 at Jaroschak Field. Delaware State scored two goals within the first 20 minutes of the contests to seal the win. The Peacocks had advantages in both shots and shots on goal in the contest, but the two Delaware State goalkeepers combined for 11 saves in the match.
Delaware State Scouting Report
The Hornets of Delaware State are currently 0-4 on the season. The Hornets most recently lost, 3-0, to Yale on Sunday. Delaware State also has a 3-0 loss to Marist from the MAAC. On the season, the Hornets have been outscored, 10-1 in the four games played.
Saint Peter's will continue their three-game home stretch against NJIT on Saturday, September 2 at 12pm and close out the home stand against Wagner on Wednesday, September 6 at 3pm.
Looking Back at 2016
Saint Peter's ended the 2016 season with a 1-13-2 overall record and a 0-9-1 record in the MAAC. The Peacocks earned a league point for the first time in over two years last season with its draw with Fairfield and the team took playoff qualifying Canisius to overtime on senior day. Saint Peter's also gave up 34 less goals in 2016 compared to 2015, cutting its average goals allowed per game from 4.64 in 2015 to 2.81 in 2016.
Looking Forward to 2017
The Peacocks only lost three seniors from the 2016 squad and the team returns 13 players from last year's roster. Returning starters include Taylor McLean, Alyssa Conanan, Brooke Trotta, Mia Greene, Olivia Nazzaro, Alexandria Couto, Aleena Cruz, Victoria Babcock, and Kelsey Nugent.
Head coach Melissa Sherwood added six new student-athletes to the 2017 team. Nazae Craw, Isabel Fernandez, Carlee Gonzalez, Rachel Ingram, Elizabeth Pacillo, and Victoria Scarratt joined the lineup for the fall.
About the Coach
