The Peacocks will head to Hampton, Virginia to take on the Hampton Pirates on Saturday, September 9 at noon.
The Peacocks and Pirates are meeting for the third consecutive season on Saturday. The Peacocks lead the series 1-0-1 all-time. The lone win came in 2015 during the inaugural matchup when the Peacocks throttled the Pirates, 11-2.
Last Time We Met
Last season, the Peacocks and Pirates met in the season opener at Jaroschak Field. The teams played to a 2-2 draw. Peacock goals were scored by Kelsey Nugent and graduate, Genesis Castrellon.
Hampton Scouting Report
The Pirates open their third season as a program with a 0-5 record. Hampton comes into the weekend contest after losing to Woffard, 7-1, on September 3. The Pirates also have a loss to VMI as does the Peacocks. The Pirates fell to the Cadets, 4-1, while the Peacocks loss, 3-1, to them.
Last Time Out
The Peacocks enter the weekend after a 2-0 defeat to Wagner on Wednesday night. Starting keeper, Victoria Scarratt made nine saves in the game.
The Peacocks will close out the non-conference season on the road at Sacred Heart on Wednesday, September 13 at 3pm.
Among the MAAC Leaders
Freshman goalkeeper Victoria Scarratt has emerged as the starting keeper for the Peacocks. Thus far, Scarrat is the MAAC leader in saves per game, averaging 10.67 saves per contest. She ranks third in both saves and save percentage.
Looking Back at 2016
Saint Peter's ended the 2016 season with a 1-13-2 overall record and a 0-9-1 record in the MAAC. The Peacocks earned a league point for the first time in over two years last season with its draw with Fairfield and the team took playoff qualifying Canisius to overtime on senior day. Saint Peter's also gave up 34 less goals in 2016 compared to 2015, cutting its average goals allowed per game from 4.64 in 2015 to 2.81 in 2016.
Looking Forward to 2017
The Peacocks only lost three seniors from the 2016 squad and the team returns 13 players from last year's roster. Returning starters include Taylor McLean, Alyssa Conanan, Brooke Trotta, Mia Greene, Olivia Nazzaro, Alexandria Couto, Aleena Cruz, Victoria Babcock, and Kelsey Nugent.
Head coach Melissa Sherwood added six new student-athletes to the 2017 team. Nazae Craw, Isabel Fernandez, Carlee Gonzalez, Rachel Ingram, Elizabeth Pacillo, and Victoria Scarratt joined the lineup for the fall.
About the Coach
