LEWISBURG, PA - Saint Peter's women's volleyball suffered a loss to tournament host Bucknell in the final round of the Bucknell Invitational, falling 3-0 (24-26, 15-25, 11-25) Sunday afternoon in the Davis Gym.
Freshman, Natalia Carbonell Torres was announced to the Bucknell Invitational All-tournament Team after finishing the tournament with a total of 15 points and a team best hitting percentage of .385.
"Natalia Carbonell, was great in the middle this weekend," said head coach Amable Martinez. "She was great at the net all weekend, getting a lot of touches and finishing with eight blocks in two matches."
Leaders for the Bison were Sophie Bullard with 10 kills and 11 digs and Blake Buchholz followed with eight kills and eight digs.
In the first set the Peacocks stayed just points behind as they trailed the Bison 12-15. Bucknell broke into a four-point run, taking the19-12 lead over the Peacocks. Each team scored more point just before Saint Peter's scored four points in a row, forcing the Bison into a timeout as the Peacocks trailed 17-20. As the game went on, McGinnis added the next four points to the board forcing the Bison into another timeout, leaving the Peacocks behind by one tally at 21-22. The teams then tied at 22 and again at 23 before McGinnis added a kill to put the Peacocks in the lead at 24-23. Unfortunately the Bison held their own as they scored the next three points winning the set, 26-24.
In the second set, the Bison got the best of the Peacocks as they jump to a 17-2 lead. The Peacocks then added four points to the board trailing Bucknell 8-18. Bucknell did not let up as they doubled Saint Peter's score 22-11. The Peacocks added only four points to their score and dropped the set 15-25.
During the final round the Peacocks trailed the Bison early at 5-10. Bucknell went on to lead Saint Peter's by 10 at 16-6. The Peacocks were unable to cut the deficit adding only five more points to the board as Bucknell finished the set with a 25-11 win.
The Peacocks will hosts Fairleigh Dickinson in their home opener at the Yanitelli Center on Wednesday, August 30 at 7pm.
